Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI), KORDI is announcing an International Symposium on Polar Sciences. This symposium is the 11th of its kind, and particularly this year we celebrate the establishment of KOPRI as an independent research body. In 17 years since the inauguration of the Korea Antarctic Research Program, we have grown into a polar program in the true sense of the word. We set our theme for this year as ‘Patterns and processes in polar oceans and life: signals and responses from molecules to system’, as we view polar researches as models for wider understanding.
Jeju, where the meeting venue is located, is the southern most and largest island of Korea with a mild oceanic, subtropical climate. Jeju is only an hour away from Seoul, the capital, and well connected by frequent flights by dometic carriers. Symposium in the most acclaimed beauty spot of the country will be a memorable occasion.
A meeting of Pacific Arctic Group (PAG) is scheduled on 7 September right before the Symposium at the same venue. This arrangement may well benefit the Symposium through the inputs from researchers from national Arctic programs.
