June 2002 Korean National Committee on Polar Research (KONPOR) was established.
April 2002 The Arctic Station was inaugurated.
April 2002 Korea joined the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC).

October 2001 The Korean Arctic Science Council(KASCO) was organized.
1990
July 1990 Korea acceded to SCAR as a regular member.
June 1990 Polar Research Laboratory was expanded and renamed as Polar Research Center.
1989
October 1989 Korea joined Antarctic Treaty as a Consultative Party.
1988
February 1988 The Antarctic Station was inaugurated.
January 1988 The first Korea Antarctic Research Program (KARP) team conducted survey in the vicinity of King Sejong Station.
1987
December 1987 Korea joined the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) as an associated member, and consturuction of King Sejong Station began.
August 1987 Korean National Committee on Antarctic Research (KONCAR) was established.
March 1987 Polar Research Laboratory was established at the Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute (KORDI).

November 1986 Acceded to the Antarctic Treaty as its the 33rd signatory
